I look at you
You glance at me
I fall flat out of the blue
You slip past for your hot tea
I spill out my hard cash
You throw out your wisdom
I grab it from the trash
You lower your kingdom
I raise it back up
You burn in a cup
My solemn heartfelt song
I shield you from many a drug
You pretend to be strong
I feign the indifferent shrug
You walk along
I shower you with gifts
You shower me with rejection
I offer you lifts
You cry your objection
I hold out my hand
You examine your fingernails
I try to take a stand
You walk away if all else fails
I make the long dashes
You hold back your passion
I try to eat my heart's ashes
You continue with the senseless fashion
I try to find courage
You tear up my thoughtful letter
I fall into the sewage
You hook up with yet another better
I still believe in love
You look the other way
I am caged like a dove
You will only my life delay
And you fly away
To freedom and lust
I wait for you on the tides
You take down the moon
On that bookshelf marked discarded
I gather dust
